What is Dentistry
Dentistry and its Role in Society
Dentistry has an important role in our society.
Dentistry not only takes care of our teeth and mouth, dentistry
also plays an important roll in our general health and well being.
Think about it for a moment, and then ask yourself just what is
the roll of dentistry in our society, and just how important is
dentistry to how we look, feel, and live?
When you meet someone and talk to them, what
you look at most is their face right, especially their mouth. We
also rely on our teeth and mouth to eat, to chew our food efficiently
and easily. Everyone wants to be able to eat, talk, and smile without
being embarrassed or in pain.
· Dentistry
contributes to how we look (self-image), and in turn dentistry helps
us feel good about ourselves (self-esteem) because of how we look.
So dentistry can be important to both, our self image and self esteem,
at least to some degree.
· Dentistry
also looks after our ability to eat a variety of foods, which means
that dentistry is a contributor to our ability to be and stay healthy,
especially as we enter old age.
Dentistry and Treatment of Dental Disease
There was a time before modern day dentistry
when we accepted dental disease as one of the problems of modern
life, and old age. Today though, we understand that much suffering
can be prevented through dentistry. Modern day dentistry involves
the treatment and prevention of a wide range of diseases of the
mouth. Dentistry can treat everything from tooth decay to mouth
cancer.
These are very exciting times for dentistry
indeed. Technology is advancing at a rate never experienced in dentistry
before, and you the patient are the benefactor. The quality of teaching
and research in our dentistry institutions is excellent and an accurate
reflection of the advances being made in the field of modern day
dentistry.
You owe it to yourself, and your family,
to take full advantage of the advances being made in dentistry.
Look, feel, and be the best you can be. See
your dentist today; you’ll be glad you did!
